High school roundup: OLSH cross country teams claim McKeesport title; Montour falls in soccer final

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart’s boys and girls cross country teams started their season on a high note, as their combined efforts netted the school the overall Cup crown at last week’s McKeesport P3R River Trail meet.

The Chargers won the girls meet while the OLSH boys placed third.

OLSH freshman Jules Goshen finished third overall in the girls race with a time of 19 minutes, 50 seconds. Sophomore Eva Crofford wound up fifth in 20:23 while fellow sophomore Hannah Hayes finished 15th with a time of 21:33.

Senior Charlotte Gaunter placed 17th (21:55) and sophomore Miri Mosca was one notch behind with a time of 21:58. Junior Lindsay Bressler placed 25th in 22:33.

On the boys side, senior Brayden Douglass finished second overall by one-tenth of a second with a time of 16:55. Senior Wesley Goshen was 24th in 18:32 and sophomore Jeremy Ye finished 25th in 18:38.


BOYS SOCCER

Avonworth 1, Montour 0

Alex Hayes scored the match’s only goal as the Antelopes edged the Spartans in the Lopes Cup tournament championship Sunday.

Calder Mahan assisted on Hayes’ goal.

Montour opened the tournament with a 6-0 win over Mercyhurst Prep.
