High school roundup: OLSH, Sto-Rox, Moon capture flag football victories; OLSH prevails in boys volleyball

Chloe Goodwin rushed for a pair of touchdowns and tacked on a point-after touchdown as well in powering Our Lady of the Sacred Heart to a 37-7 victory over Propel Montour Tuesday night in a WPIAL Section 4 girls flag football game.

The win was the first for OLSH in five games this season.

Also finding the end zone for the Chargers were Jules Goshen, Ashlyn Curry, Jordyn Velmire and Charlotte Garner.

Goshen and Curry each rushed for a touchdown while Velmire hauled in a touchdown pass from Lola Garner.

Gauntner provided one of the defensive highlights by picking off a Propel Montour pass and returning it for a touchdown.

Katie McCullough also had an interception for OLSH.


Sto-Rox 32, Bishop Canevin 13

Rae Johnston had a game to remember, throwing for three touchdowns and returning an interception for a score as the Vikings overpowered the Crusaders in a Section 4 matchup.

Johnston connected with Viyhshaela Macon, Dayonna Dozier and Kamiyah Thompson for touchdowns and also hooked up with Macon on a two-point conversion pass.

On defense, Johnston converted a pick-six, as did teammate Jordyn Kearney.

Kya Cooley had a huge day for Bishop Canevin, scoring on a 62-yard run from scrimmage and returning a punt 68 yards for a score. She totaled 104 rushing yards.

Gianna Mathews caught 13 passes for 127 yards and also picked off a pass on defense. Macie McClain also had an interception for the Crusaders.


Moon Area 25, Quaker Valley 6

Syd Ray connected with Juls Corrado on a pair of touchdown passes and threw a third to Madi Wilson to spark the Tigers past the Quakers in a Section 4 game.

Corrado also returned an interception for a score for the Tigers. Lily Barr also contributed to the defensive cause with nine pulls – the flag football equivalent of a tackle.

Moon led just 7-6 at halftime before pulling away with 18 second-half points.


BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 3, Hopewell 0

Isaac Tarbuk and Paddy Altmar combined for 31 kills to help lift the Chargers past the Vikings in a Class 2A Section 4 match at OLSH’s Angela Activities Center.

OLSH won the first two games by identical 25-19 scores but trailed 17-9 in the third set before rallying to take the lead, 24-23. The Chargers finished off that game with the next point to seal the match.

Tarbuk finished with 18 kills and two blocks while Altmar added 13 kills and two blocks. Brady Rooney contributed 11 kills for the winners, who also got three kills and three blocks from Oliver Tomsic and 39 assists from Aiden Curry.


Montour 3, Ambridge 0

Chris Burik registered nine kills and three blocks to help lead the Spartans to a sweep of the Bridgers in a Class 2A Section 4 match. The set scores were 25-22, 25-17, 25-12.

Gaige Schoff added eight kills for Montour while Noah Lawson had four blocks and Dom Lach contributed three aces.


Butler 3, Moon Area 0

The Tigers dropped a Class 3A Section 1 match to the Golden Tornado, losing by set scores of 25-8, 25-17, 25-18.

Logan Anderson-Stewart and Ayden Anderson-Simmons led Moon with seven kills each. Anderson-Stewart and Shane Johns each had nine digs.
