Unbeaten Our Lady of the Sacred Heart scored early and often en route to a 9-1 victory over Bishop Canevin Thursday in a WPIAL Class 1A Section 3 boys soccer game at Youthtowne.
With the win, the Chargers improved to 9-0 overall on the season and 5-0 in section play.
Brady Hernandez led the offensive onslaught by scoring three goals, helping OLSH build an insurmountable 9-0 lead by halftime.
Aaron Callahan scored two goals for the Chargers. Contributing one goal apiece for OLSH were Owen Minzer, Peter Zink, Andre Kolocouris and Grant Griesacker.
Moon Area 3, Ambridge 0
Three players each scored one goal and the Tigers improved to 9-3 overall and 8-0 in Class 3A Section 4 play with a shutout win over the Bridgers.
Jocsan Castillo, Hayden Dunn and Adam Jaszcar each scored once for Moon. Eric Haupt assisted on two of the Tigers’ three goals and Vinnie Munizza added an assist.
Will Guarino earned the shutout in goal.
Montour 3, Baldwin 2
Brayden Borris’ goal 13 minutes into the second half proved to be the difference as the Spartans edged the Highlanders in a Class 3A Section 4 game.
Borris opened the scoring for Montour, which improved to 7-6 overall and 5-3 in the section, with his goal coming with 21 minutes left in the first half. Baldwin tied the score at 1-1 on Zack Lieu’s goal with eight minutes to play in the half.
Montour’s Dominic Passaro made it 2-1 four minutes into the second half, and Borris scored his second goal nine minutes later to increase the Spartans’ lead to 3-1.
Gavis Ries scored Baldwin’s final goal on a penalty kick.
GIRLS SOCCER
Moon Area 6, Chartiers Valley 0
Kendall Dydek scored a pair of goals and assisted on another and Hailey Hatton notched two goals to spark the visiting Tigers past the Colts in a Class 3A Section 2 matchup that was continued Thursday after being suspended Monday night because of inclement weather.
Emma Marquis and Anna Palm each added a goal for Moon, which improved to 10-1-0 overall and 8-0-0 in section play.
Madison Shaver had a pair of assists while Quinn Arnold, Taylor McConnell and Palm each added an assist.
Goalkeeper Ainslie Romasco registered the shutout for the Tigers, who led 5-0 at halftime.
Moon has now outscored its opposition 50-6 on the season and 43-2 in section play. The Tigers have seven shutouts.
GIRLS TENNIS
Seneca Valley 5, Moon Area 0
The Tigers’ top two singles players – Haley Bates and Cailyn Frye – put up spirited efforts before falling to their Raiders counterparts.
Bates fell 6-2, 6-3 to Monique Polas at No. 1 singles and Frye lost 6-3, 6-2 to Ella Marley at No. 2.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
South Fayette 3, Moon Area 1
Elina Antoniades collected 22 assists, five kills, eight digs and three blocks, but it wasn’t enough as the Tigers fell to the Lions in a Class 3A Section 1 match.
Libero Danica Bacu led the defense with 24 digs and three assists. Reese Keslar registered 12 kills, 21 digs and three aces while Juls Corrado had eight kills and 12 digs.
Trinity 3, Montour 1
Montour’s Delaney Barto recorded her 1,000th career dig, but the Hillers came away with the victory, winning by set scores of 17-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-22, in a Class 3A Section 1 match at Montour. No further details were available.
Serra Catholic 3, Bishop Canevin 0
The Crusaders were swept by the Eagles, losing by scores of 25-7, 25-15 and 25-17 in a Class 1A Section 5 contest. No individual statistics were available.
Aquinas Academy 3, Cornell 0
The Raiders fell in straight sets to the Crusaders, 25-8, 25-16, 25-13, in a nonsection match. No individual statistics were available.
