Shania Cope collected four hits and drove in five runs and Montour erupted for seven runs in the fifth inning on the way to a 17-13 victory over visiting Western Beaver Thursday in a non-section softball game.
Cope singled in a run in the fourth inning, stroked a two-run double in the fifth and clubbed a two-run home run in the sixth for the Spartans.
Hailey Staub had two hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs, and Emily McClean also had two hits and two RBIs to pace Montour’s 17-hit attack. Both Staub and McClean scored two runs in the win.
Caylee Moser had three hits, scored a run and drove in a run, and Natalie Ciamacco homered and scored twice for the winners.
Danielle Terpack also had two hits for Montour, which trailed 7-3 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning. The Spartans scored twice in their half of the fourth but surrendered two to Western Beaver in the top of the fifth to make it 9-5.
Then in the bottom of the fifth, the Spartans erupted for seven runs to make it 12-9 and added five more runs in the sixth to extend their lead to 17-9.
McClean’s two-run single and Cope’s two-run double keyed the fifth-inning rally for Montour.
Cornell 10, Carlynton 6
Shaylee Barrett went 3 for 4 with a stolen base and an RBI and the Raiders pushed across four runs in each of the third and fourth innings to open up a 9-1 lead on the way to a win over the Cougars in a non-section game.
Barrett had two singles and a double to lead Cornell. Kylie Michlovic and Gianna Gracyk both went 2 for 4 in the win, with Michlovic collecting a single and a triple and Gracyk a pair of singles and two stolen bases.
Lucy Vetter led Carlynton with an RBI double and a single and Emma Arnold collected the only other hit for the Cougars.
The Ville 7, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 6
The Chargers took a 6-4 lead into the bottom of the fifth but gave up three runs and lost in a game played at Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
Julia Pinter had two hits, including a two-run single, and drove in three runs for OLSH while Nevaeh Morin had a hit and two RBIs.
Jordyn Velmire also collected an RBI in a losing cause for the Chargers.
Sophia Wasko went the distance and gave up six hits and seven runs, with only two of those being earned as the Chargers committed five errors.
Blackhawk 10, Moon Area 2
The Cougars broke open a close game with a seven-run seventh-inning rally and claimed non-section win over the Tigers.
Blackhawk led just 3-2, taking the lead in the fifth with a pair of runs, and the put a seven-spot up on Moon in the top of the seventh.
Mia Yenges and Addy Ramer each doubled in a pair of runs to spark the rally, Brynn Hysong delivered an RBI single and two runs scored on Moon errors.
Taya Fitzgerald had a pair of hits for Moon and those were the only hits the Tigers could muster off two Blackhawk pitchers. Fitzgerald delivered a two-run single in the fourth for Moon’s lone runs.
