High school softball: Seventh-inning homer lifts Moon Area past Montour; OLSH rolls

Cami Chambers smacked a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Moon Area a 4-2 walk-off win over Montour Monday in a WPIAL Class 5A Section 3 softball matchup at Moon.

The game appeared to be headed to extra innings when the first two Tigers went down in the seventh. But Sydney Ray reached on a base hit and Chambers stroked a line drive to centerfield for the game-winning home run.

Montour opened the scoring in the fourth when Hailey Staub reached on an error and Shania Cope doubled her home.

Moon answered in its half of the fourth when Kendall Trexler delivered a two-run double with two outs.

Danielle Terpak pulled the Spartans even in the fifth inning when she led off with a home run, knotting the score at 2-2. It remained tied until Chambers’ game-deciding blow in the seventh.

Ray and Chambers each contributed a pair of hits for the Tigers, who finished with seven hits.

Katie DeMarco went the distance on the mound for Moon, holding Montour to five hits and striking out seven. She did not walk a batter.

Jade Schrenker had two of Montour’s five hits. Spartans pitcher Gabby McDowell gave up seven hits and two earned runs.

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 14, Burgettstown 4

Mya Eshenbaugh’s two-run single keyed a four-run first-inning rally to send the visiting Chargers on their way to a win over the Blue Devils in a Class 2A Section 3 game.

OLSH put the game away with a seven-run second inning, which featured Eshenbaugh’s two-run homer and a three-run homer from Kaylee Seskey.

The Chargers finished with 16 hits, led by Leann Walzer’s double and two singles. Walzer also scored three times and drove in a run. Collecting two hits for OLSH were Sophia Wasko, Julia Pinter, Eshenbaugh and Seskey.

Elizabeth Smith scored twice, had a hit and drove in a run. Wasko drove in a run and scored a run for the winners.

Camryn Hummel went all five innings and gave up four runs – two of which were earned – and five hits.


Chartiers-Houston 15, Carlynton 0

The Buccaneers used a pair of home runs to score four runs in the first inning and they added 11 more in the second to throttle the Cougars in a Class 2A Section 3 game that went just three innings.

Chartiers-Houston pitcher Tayne Drilak held Carlynton hitless.

No other details were available.


South Side 21, Bishop Canevin 0

Maya Ringhoff had a pair of doubles and drove in six runs as the Rams scored nine runs in the second inning and 12 in the third in whipping the Crusaders in a Class 1A Section 1 game.

Ringhoff held the Crusaders hitless in the three-inning contest.
