BOYS TENNIS

Montour’s John Rohrkaste rebounded from a loss in the semifinals to finish third in the WPIAL Class 2A Section 2 boys singles tennis tournament and earn a berth in next week’s WPIAL Championships.

Rohrkaste, the No. 3 seed, opened play with a 10-0 blanking of Beckett Wargo of Keystone Oaks and followed that by defeating Tony Simda of Ringgold by the same 10-0 score.

That vaulted Rohrkaste into a semifinal match against No. 2 seed Jonah Jasek of South Park, and Jasek wound up with a 10-1 victory.

The loss left Rohrkaste taking on Steven Duing of South Park in the match for third place, and Rohrkaste prevailed, 6-0, 6-2.

The top four finishers at the section tournament, played at Keystone Oaks, advance to the WPIAL Championships, the first round of which will begin Tuesday, April 8, at Bethel Park.

Three other West Hills players took part in the sectopm tournament. Montour’s Jonah Camardese, the No. 5 seed, defeated No. 12 Randen Eury of Keystone Oaks, 10-1, in his first match but then lost to Duing in the quarterfinals, 10-2.
