Zach Miner limited Moon Area to five hits and one run as Peters Township posted a 3-1 victory Saturday over the host Tigers in a Class 5A Section 2 baseball matchup.
Miner allowed just one walk and one earned run in his seven innings of work, striking out five. He also stroked an RBI single in the third inning to help his own cause.
Moon’s lone run came in the bottom of the fifth inning when Jarrod Golden led off with a single, advanced to second on Savario Vandetti’s sacrifice and scored on Nick Machusko’s single to center.
Thad Longwell followed with a base hit, but Miner induced Angelo Fachet to line out to center, ending the threat.
In the seventh, Golden led off with a base hit but Miner got the next batter to pop out to third and the following hitter grounded into a double play.
Golden was the only Moon hitter to finish with more than one hit. Also picking up a hit was Nick Marasco.
Ryan Cavanaugh started on the mound for Moon and gave up six hits and three runs – two of which were earned – while striking out two and walking one.
Tyler Ebner worked 2 1/3 innings of hitless relief, striking out three.
Peters Township scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

Madison Schmitz’ led off the game with inside-the-park home run and that proved to be the only run the Tigers would need on the way to a shutout win over the Chargers in a game played in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
Brooke Tatar went 3 for 3 with an RBI and Schmitz added two hits and scored twice for the winners, who out-hit OLSH 8-4.
Ava Ciummo had two of the Chargers’ four hits and Olivia DiGiacomo and Julia Pinter each added one.
OLSH pitcher Carmyn Hummel pitched a complete game, allowing eight hits and three earned runs while walking two.
Tatar worked five innings in relief for the Tigers and limited the Chargers to two hits while walking one and striking out eight.
OLSH twice put a pair of runners on base but failed to score. In the second inning, the Chargers had runners at first and second with one out but the next two batters struck out. In the sixth, OLSH lined into a double play with runners at first and second.
