Freshman Rachel Stepp of Moon Area dusted the field in the 400-meter run Thursday, finishing ahead of the pack at the 60th annual Butler Invitational at Art Bernardi Stadium in Butler.
Stepp’s time of 55.98 seconds earned her the top spot, highlighting the Tiger contingent’s efforts.
Stepp finished ahead of Norwin’s Melani Schmidt, who clocked a time of 56.83.
Stepp also finished eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 26.09
Moon juniors Jaedin Griggs and Lydia Delsite finished third and fourth, respectively, in the triple jump.
Griggs took third with a mark of 38 feet, 7 inches while Delsite was right behind with a mark of 38-2.50.
Winchester Thurston sophomore Alexis Bansah won the event with a mark of 40-1.50.
Delsite also placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 17-6.5 and tied for ninth in the high jump with a mark of 5-2.
Moon’s Maria Depner wound up ninth in the discus with a toss of 104-7.
In the boys meet, Moon’s 4×400 meter relay team of Marcus McGill, Jared Moyer, Evan Senkevich and Samuel Herrera placed third with a time of 3:267.43. Butler won the event in 3:21.24.
Moon’s Elijah Thomas tied for fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 13-6.
The Tigers’ Tyler Giunipero finished fourth in the 3,200 meters with a time of 9:16.09.
Moyer placed eighth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 40.82.
Herrera clocked a 1:58.49 to finish ninth in the 800 meters.
Jake Duncan of Moon wound up 12th in the discus with a mark of 127-8.
BOYS LACROSSE
Moon 15, Winchester Thurston 1
Cole Seymour scored four goals and assisted on another to lead the offense as the Tigers whipped the Bears in a WPIAL Class 2A Section 2 game Thursday night.
Ryder Zalin added three goals while Ben Witenski, Alec Batchelor and Brody Eckert each contributed two goals. Batchelor notched two assists while Witenski added one.
Scoring single goals for Moon were Mitch Burgan and Machi Baldis.
John DiSilverio had four saves on five shots on goal to bring his season save percentage to 80%.
Dylan Siemons went 10 of 13 from the faceoff and Quin Tyler was 4 for 4.
The Tigers return to play Monday in a key section match against Indiana.
