Harry Miller swam to a pair of individual victories and helped win two more relays as Carlynton claimed a 68-52 triumph over Cornell Thursday night in a WPIAL Class 2A Section 1 boys swim meet.
In the girls meet, Cornell overcame a standout individual effort from Carlynton’s Evey Fahnestock and used superior depth and individual victories by Grace Turko and Kendra Durec to post an 88-60 victory over the Cougars.
In the boys meet, Miller won the 100-yard freestyle, the 200 freestyle and swam on victorious 200 free and 400 free relay efforts for Carlynton.
The Cougars’ Graham Harman notched first-place finishes in the 500 freestyle and 100 breaststroke and also swam on the 400 freestyle relay squad. Dominic Hixenbaugh contributed two both the 200 and 400 freestyle relay victories and won the 200 individual medley.
Fionn Hites swam on Carlynton’s winning 200 freestyle relay group and Dom Sans-Pelescak contributed to both the 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay wins.
For Cornell, Noah Picket won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke while Petrus Hawkins took the 50 free.
In the girls meet, Cornell’s Turko won the 200 IM and Durec won the 100 free.
The Raiders’ also won the 200 medley relay event with Annika Muir, Clara Joranger, Mira Mosca and Paris Lee combining for the win.
Carlynton’s Fahnestock won both the 200 free and 100 butterfly, clocking WPIAL qualifying times in both events. The freshman standout now has qualified for five WPIAL events; in addition to the 200 free and 100 fly, she has marks in the 200 IM, 50 free and 100 breaststroke.
Mallory Rose also won two individual events – the 50 free and 100 breaststroke – and swam on the victorious 400 free relay team with Fahnestock, Chloe Baum and Allie Glass.
Baum also won the 500 free and Glass took the 100 back.
