High school swimming: Montour boys, girls sweep Carlynton

Outstanding efforts from Alana Tonkin, Anastasia Ulintz and Madilyn Apolito on the girls side and James McMurtrie and Joseph Stahurski on the boys side led Montour to a sweep of its WPIAL swim meet with Carlynton Tuesday night at Montour.

The Spartans girls team prevailed 95-41 over the Cougars while the Montour boys posted an 82-28 victory.

On the girls side, Tonkin, Ulintz and Apolito each won a pair of individual events and took part in a pair of winning relay efforts.

McMurtrie and Stahurski did the same on the boys side for Montour.

Tonkin won the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly; Ulintz placed first in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke; and Apolito won the 100 free and 100 backstroke.

Tonkin also swam legs on the Spartans’ victorious 200 and 400 free relay groups; Ulintz was part of Montour’s winning 200 free and 200 medley relay quartets and Apolito helped the Spartans win the 200 medley and 400 free relay events.

McMurtrie won the 200 IM and 500 free and also swam on winning 200 and 400 free relay teams. Stahurski won the 50 free and 100 fly and also swam on winning 200 free and 200 medley relay groups.

Montour’s Aiden Matuszewski won the 200 free and swam on both the 200 medley and 400 free relay squads. Aaron He won the 100 free and also swam on the winning 200 free and 200 medley relay units.

For Carlynton, Mallory Rose won the 50 free, Dominic Hixenbaugh took first in the 100 back and Dom Sans-Pelescak won the 100 breast.
