HS roundup: Moon, Montour, OLSH capture girls soccer wins

The Moon Area girls soccer team continued its winning ways by blanking visiting Blackhawk, 5-0, Wednesday in a WPIAL Class 3A Section 2 matchup.

Kendall Dydek scored one goal and assisted on another for the Tigers, who improved to 9-1 overall and 7-0 in section competition.

Moon had its hands full in the opening half, as it led just 1-0 at halftime on Ally D’Alesio’s goal.

But the Tigers came alive offensively in the second half, with Junie Shaver, Anna Palm, Bella Taylor and Dydek each scoring a goal.

Picking up assists were Riley LaFayette, Sophia Jovanelly, Anya Schwartz and Quinn Arnold.

Ainslee Romasco and Samantha D’Alesio shared the shutout in goal.


Montour 6, Chartiers Valley 0

Irelynn Hobbs netted the hat trick with three goals, powering the host Spartans past the Colts in a Class 3A Section 2 match.

Kira Hobbs, Brooklyn Young and Holly Zulka each contributed one goal for Montour, which led 3-0 at halftime.

The win boosted Montour’s record to 8-2 overall and 6-1 in section play.


Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 3, Freedom Area 1

Camryn Hummel snapped a 1-1 tie with 20 minutes to play in the game, sparking the Chargers past the Bulldogs in a Class 2A Section 1 match at Youthtowne.

Olivia Taylor gave OLSH a 1-0 lead with a goal in the first half, but Freedom tied the score later in the half to make it 1-1 at intermission.

Hummel then broke the deadline with her goal and she added an insurance tally later in the game to finish the scoring.

The Chargers improved to 4-4-1 overall and 4-2-1 in section play with Wednesday’s win.


Seton LaSalle 8, Bishop Canevin 0

The Rebels had little trouble taking care of the Crusaders in a Class 1A Section 3 match at Seton LaSalle. No further details were available.


CROSS COUNTRY

Moon Area vs. Peters Township

The Tigers swept both the boys and girls meets Wednesday, with the boys winning 25-30 and the girls prevailing 26-29.

Evan Slawuta led the Moon boys team, finishing his home course in a time of 18 minutes, 6 seconds.

Casey Krauza, Samarth Mandani, Sam Herrera, Marcus McGill, Elise Ashcroft, Lainey Biggerstaff and Alexis Schuler were saluted on Senior Recognition Day.


GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 3, Freedom Area 0

The Chargers made fairly quick work of the Bulldogs, winning by set scores of 25-17, 25-14 and 25-13 in a Class 2A Section 1 matchup at Freedom.

Jenna Nastal led OLSH with six kills and one dig while Julia Davoli contributed three kills, three aces and 3 digs.

Sophia Wasko finished with nine digs and four aces while Carmella Rippole had 12 assists and three digs.
