Lane restrictions set for Thursday on I-79, I-376 in Robinson, Kennedy

Lane restrictions will be in place Thursday, Aug. 20, on Interstate 79 and I-376 (Parkway West) in Robinson and Kennedy townships, weather permitting.

Lane restrictions are scheduled to occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday to allow crews to conduct guide rail, attenuator and cable barrier repair work in the following locations:

  • Northbound I-79 between the I-376 Airport/Pittsburgh (Exit 59 A/B) interchange and just north of the Route 60 Moon Run/Crafton (Exit 60 A/B) interchange
  • The westbound I-376 off-ramp to southbound I-79 toward Washington (Exit 64A) where the two lanes merge

Friday, Aug. 21, will be used as a make-up date if inclement weather occurs Thursday.

Data center executive order signed

An executive order that supporters believe will block speculative data center projects from moving forward and give local communities more power over data center development was signed by Gov. Josh Shapiro earlier this week.

The order directs state agencies to require all data center proposals seeking permits from the state to comply with a new set of requirements. The order also directs the state Department of Environmental Protection to evaluate permit applications from proposed data centers only if developers have made a legally binding commitment to meet the new requirements, known as the Governor’s Responsible Infrastructure Development (GRID) requirements, and have received local approval.

According to Shapiro, the executive order, which he signed Tuesday, lays out strict requirements that data center developers must meet regarding energy affordability, community engagement, workforce and economic development, transparency and environmental protection – and gives local municipalities a greater say over development in their communities.

The West Hills is home to at least one data center, in Robinson Township. Moon Township supervisors have been reviewing a draft ordinance that would be used to site data centers within the township, but that ordinance has not come up for a vote yet.
