A quarterback sack that resulted in a safety early in the final quarter proved to be the difference as Edinboro claimed a 23-21 victory over Robert Morris at Joe Walton Stadium Saturday, Sept. 7.

A 74-yard Edinboro punt pinned the Colonials (0-2) at their own 1-yard line with 11 minutes, 15 seconds to play in the game and the score tied at 21-21.

On the next play, Tristian Waldier sacked Robert Morris quarterback Anthony Chiccitt in the end zone for a safety, putting the Fighting Scots on top, 23-21.

Robert Morris mounted a drive later in the final quarter, marching to the Edinboro 29-yard line with just over 2 minutes remaining.

But on a fourth-and-1 play, Robert Morris’ Delvecchio Powell II was stopped for a 1-yard loss, preserving the win for Edinboro.

Chiccitt completed 14 of 21 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown. Tyvon Edmonds rushed for 71 yards on 14 carries and scored on a 15-yard run that tied the score at 14-14 with 1:31 to play in the second quarter.

After Edinboro went in front 21-14 on Isaac Bernard’s touchdown pass to Clayton Bezon with 1:18 left in the third quarter, Robert Morris’ DJ Moyer scored on a 12-yard run with 13:04 left in the game to tie the score at 21-21.

Bernard completed 20 of 27 passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns for Edinboro (1-1).
