Local attorney officiates championship

Local attorney Joe Kulik officiated a PIAA Championship game on Dec. 9.

Joe Kulik, a local attorney and husband of State Rep. Anita Kulik, was calling plays in Hershey early December as referee for the PIAA Class A Championship matchup between Redbank Valley and Bishop Guilfoyle.

Had Bishop Canevin’s semi-final loss to Redbank Valley turned out differently, he could have been officiating over a local team and his wife’s alma mater during the Dec. 9 championship, but Kulik said he was in any case thrilled by the experience.

“It was a very, very pleasant surprise to be selected to work a state championship,” he said.

“It is, without a doubt, the greatest honor that a high school football official could receive.”

Kulik, a Montour graduate and Kennedy resident, has been officiating high school sports since 1986.
