Locals teams start quest for WPIAL gold

Tigers Braiden Stuart leads Moon into the playoffs.

Now that the 2022-23 regular season has drawn to a close, some of our coverage area teams have their sights set on the next mission. Chasing a WPIAL Championship is the dream of selected young men and women as they hit the basketball hardwood for the second season, the playoffs.

Of the 14 boys and girls teams in our circulation area, nine will play on, chasing the championship dream. For the other five, the season ends here.

Moving on in the boys’ post-season are Bishop Canevin, Carlynton, Our Lady Of the Sacred Heart, Montour and Moon Area. Sto-Rox and Cornell failed to qualify. Both Bishop Canevin and OLSH will be looking to repeat as champions.

As for the girls, Bishop Canevin, Carlynton, Montour and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, qualified for the second season. Unfortunately for Cornell (their season never started due to a lack of team members), Moon Area and Sto-Rox failed to make the playoff field. Bishop Canevin will be attempting to duplicate their championship run for last season, seeking a repeat title.

Gazette 2.0 will have you covered from the opening tip in round one all the way to the WPIAL Championships as our teams chase the dream of hoisting a trophy and being crowned champions.
