McKees Rocks Planning Commission to discuss Chartiers Avenue Apartments

Plans for a four-story apartment building on Chartiers Avenue will be the focus of a public hearing before the McKees Rocks Planning Commission at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, in the council chambers of the borough Municipal Building, 340 Bell Ave.

The commission will review lot consolidation and land development plans submitted for the Chartiers Avenue Apartments, a new affordable housing development that will feature 35 one-bedroom and nine two-bedroom units for general occupancy. The 54,548-square-foot project, developed by ACTION Housing, will feature ground-level commercial units at the corner of Chartiers and Island avenues.

The plans, which also include parking, were submitted by Morris Knowles & Associates on behalf of Chartiers Avenue Apartments, LP, for parcels known as 43-K-215 and 43-K-219.

Construction is anticipated to start late next summer or early fall, and it typically takes 14 to 16 months to complete.

The project is made possible through $1.85 million in federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credits for construction.

Public comment period extended for county proposal

The Allegheny County Health Department is extending the public comment period for the proposed amendment on Paid Parental Leave and Expanded Paid Sick Days to 11:59 p.m. Thursday, July 16.

The extension from 30 days to 60 days is a direct response to resident requests for more time to review the proposal and submit written comments for consideration.

The amendment would require all employers operating in the county, regardless of size, to provide eligible employees with up to 18 weeks of paid parental leave following the birth, adoption or legal placement of a child.

The proposal would also expand the county’s current Paid Sick Leave Act by allowing employees to accrue more paid sick time at a faster rate than under current rules.

Written comments can be submitted by email to publichealthcomment@allghenycounty.us

Additionally, comments can be made by calling 412-258-3258 or sending a letter to:

Attn: Article XXIV Comments (Paid Parental Leave) Allegheny County Health Department 542 Fourth Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15219

Additional information regarding the proposed amendment is available through the Public Comment Notices page of the county website.
