Pittsburgh man charged with homicide in fatal Sheraden shooting
A 41-year-old Pittsburgh man is facing charges of criminal homicide and carrying a firearm without a license following a fatal shooting that occurred Wednesday night in Sheraden.
Joel Ingram was taken into custody overnight and was being held in the Allegheny County Jail Thursday awaiting a preliminary hearing in connection with an incident that occurred about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday at Chartiers Avenue and Municipal Street.
According to a criminal complaint filed Thursday, Pittsburgh Police officers responded to a report of a shooting and found a Nissan Xterra parked on the road that had been struck by gunfire. The adult male driver, identified in the criminal complaint as Dana Faulk, sustained a single gunshot wound to the head. Although officers rendered aid until medics arrived, the 55-year-old McKeesport resident was pronounced dead at the scene just before 9:30 p.m.
A suspect vehicle, which detectives believe was driven by Ingram, fled the area following the incident but Ingram was apprehended later and taken into custody.
According to the criminal complaint, a witness who was riding in the front passenger seat of the Xterra with Faulk told police detectives that that they were stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of Corliss and West Carson streets when a man driving a dark-colored vehicle that was directly behind the Xterra began yelling at Faulk and telling him to “move up.”
According to the complaint, when Faulk told Ingram he wouldn’t move up, Ingram responded, “Yup, yup meet me in the tunnels,” the passenger in Faulk’s car told detectives.
When the light turned green, the two vehicles drove into the tunnel. According to the complaint, Ingram followed the Xterra through the next light, then pulled up next to the Xterra near the busway and fired “1-2” shots.
Faulk’s passenger told detectives that Faulk immediately slumped over and the Xterra drifted into the sidewalk and stopped. The witness attempted to help Faulk, and another man approached the vehicle and called 911.
Detectives were able to locate Ingram through the use of cameras and license plate trackers, eventually conducting a traffic stop on Kennedy Avenue in Pittsburgh’s Perry South neighborhood. Ingram was detained and taken to police headquarters, where he was ultimately placed under arrest.
Ingram was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday afternoon and was being held at the county jail after bail was denied.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday, July 24, in Pittsburgh Municipal Court.
