Plenty of activities planned for Saturday in McKees Rocks

McKees Rocks area residents will have plenty of options to stay busy Saturday.

Focus on Renewal (FOR) will be the site of a free community event co-sponsored by the American Heart Association from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., a community Juneteenth celebration will be held on the Green Space next to the Roxian Theater on Chartiers Avenue.

In addition, a car cruise and the “Survive & Thrive Community Health and Wellness Fair” will take place in neighboring Stowe Township. The health and wellness event is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at The Castle Consortia, 700 Seventh St. The township and local business-sponsored car cruise is from noon to 3 p.m. along Broadway Avenue.

At the first event, a ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. at 420 Chartiers Ave. to celebrate the arrival of the American Heart Association’s Mobile CPR Kiosk.

Community members are welcome to learn the lifesaving skill of Hands-Only CPR on the mobile kiosk, which is sponsored by GBU Life and will be housed at FOR during the next few months.

The free community event also will feature a cooking demo courtesy of Chef Brandi Allen, who will show how to make heart-healthy recipes, and other interactive activities.

The Juneteenth Community Cookout also is a free event that will feature food, games, live entertainment, raffles, special tournaments and more. Those in attendance can register for single-elimination spades, dominos and chess tournaments.

The Castle Consortia event is hosted by Crisis Center North and will feature health screenings, wellness workshops and community resources including blood pressure checks, pediatric and women’s health services, behavioral health, dental care, spiritual wellness and more.

Those in attendance can connect with local vendors including Metro Community Health Center, Allegheny County Health Department, DreamLife Recovery, and enjoy engaging activities from Legit Fit, Love Bugs Therapeutic Horses, DrumNexus and more.

Food trucks will be on site from noon to 3 p.m. and ASL interpretation is available as needed.

At the cruise, “The Doo Wop Doctors,” consisting of Dr. John Pastin and Dr. Al Condeluci who formed the group in 2018. The duo reunited after a 52 year hiatus where they played in a group called “The Chantels.” In addition to oldies music, the cruise will feature a bake sale, food and trophies for the best hot rods lined up along the avenue.
