Riley’s Pour House, a well-known Irish pub and community gathering place in Carnegie, will host a groundbreaking ceremony at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at its original site, 215 E. Main St., marking the official start of reconstruction after a fire caused a total loss of the building nearly two years ago.

The ceremony will mark the end of a challenging recovery period that included extensive underwriting reviews and significant cost hurdles.

The establishment’s owners said the rebuilding project would not be possible without the support of Carnegie and the surrounding communities and added that the groundbreaking is a symbol of resilience and a promise that the Pour House will return stronger than ever – right where it belongs.

The rebuilt Riley’s Pour House will honor the spirit of the original pub while introducing updated features for patrons.

Construction will begin the week following the ceremony, with a targeted reopening date of March 2027.

Crafton Boulevard gas line repair work to start

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) said utility work work on Crafton Boulevard (Route 60) in Crafton Borough will begin extended hours Tuesday, Sept. 15, weather permitting.

Single-lane alternating traffic will occur on Crafton Boulevard between Sarah Street and Lawson Avenue daily, as needed, through late October according to the schedule below:

• 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• 4 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Crews from the M. O’Herron Co. will conduct gas line repair work for Peoples Natural Gas.

New airport terminal earns honors

Pittsburgh International Airport’s new terminal notched another top honor recently when it was awarded LEED Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. The airport’s Customer Service Building earned similar certification and the airport also announced that its new Terminal Garage has also received Parksmart Gold Certification.

The LEED Gold designations position PIT among a select group of airports whose major infrastructure projects meet rigorous standards for sustainable design, construction and operation. Energy- and water-efficient systems, smart building controls and sustainable design features reduce operating and maintenance costs.

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification is the world’s most widely recognized green building rating system.
