RMU basketball: Colonial men rally to beat Saint Francis; women pummel Point Park

The Robert Morris men’s basketball team extended its overall record to 10-4 Saturday with a 79-70 nonconference win over the Saint Francis Red Flash in Loretto.

The victory, at the DeGol Arena, was the Colonials’ seventh in the past eight games.

Robert Morris, again, had to battle back from a double-digit deficit as the Red Flash jumped out to an early 24-14 lead in the middle of the first half. Saint Francis, from the Northeast Conference, shot 42.3% from 3-point range and had eight steals on the day. Robert Morris used excellent shooting to retake the lead at half, 37-34.

The Colonials continued their scoring streak in the second half and ended the day shooting 53.2% from the field, including 54.5% from 3-point range, and 73.9% from the free-throw line.

DeSean Goode led the Colonials with a game-high 24 points and eight rebounds; Ryan Prather added 18 points and nine assists, and Cam Wilds scored 13 points.

Goode on Thursday was included on CollegeInsider.com’s Early Season Watch List for the 2025-26 Lou Henson Award, which is presented annually to the top mid-major player in Division I college basketball. The list includes 50 student-athletes.

The recipient of the annual award is determined by a 10-member voting committee, which consists of current and former head coaches, as well as two senior staff members of collegeinsider.com.

The 2026 award will be announced in Indianapolis, site of the men’s Division I Basketball Championship.

Robert Morris enters its holiday break and does not play again until Dec. 29 when the Colonials begin Horizon League play against the Norse of Northern Kentucky at the UPMC Events Center in Moon Township.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.

RMU women’s basketball team defeats Point Park

The Robert Morris women’s basketball team had little trouble with the Division II Point Park Pioneers Friday night in a crosstown “City Game” of sorts, cruising to a 79-29 victory at the UPMC Events Center on the RMU campus.

The Colonials dominated the contest in all aspects and took a 33-10 lead at halftime.  Robert Morris played an excellent defensive game, limiting the Pioneers to 2-for-17 shooting from the floor and outscoring them 46-19 in the second half.

The final 50-point margin of victory was the largest since the Colonials won by 50 points over Mercyhurst in 1985.  Double-doubles from freshmen Dania McClain (17 points, 10 rebounds) and Layke Fields (16 points, 10 rebounds) paced Robert Morris.  Jennica Suggs added 11 rebounds for RMU.

Point Park’s leading scorers were Amaya Richardson and Sophia Moore, who had five  points each.  The Pioneers, from the Mountain East Conference, are now 3-6 overall.

The Colonials enter the holiday break with a 9-2 overall record and return to Horizon League play on Dec. 29 against the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies, from Auburn Hills, Mich.

Tip-off for the game, which will be played at the UPMC Events Center in Moon Township, is 4 p.m.
