Coming off a bye week, the Robert Morris Colonials will travel to Massachusetts Saturday to take on the Merrimack College Warriors in an NCAA Division I FCS football matchup.
The Colonials are 1-3 on the season and looking for their first FCS win before Northeast Conference play begins next week.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the North Andover, Mass., campus.
A key component of Saturday’s game is whether RMU starting quarterback Zach Tanner will be available. Tanner was injured during the first half of the Colonials’ loss to Dayton and did not return.
Central Valley product Ameer Dudley and Montour grad Jake Wolfe handled the signal calling for the remainder of the Dayton game and one may be called upon to start against Merrimack.
Wolfe completed 3 of 8 passes for 26 yards and was sacked twice against Dayton while Dudley was 0 for 2.
Tanner has started the entire season and has completed 38 of 74 passes for 434 yards and four touchdowns, without an interception.
After four games, Ethan Shine leads the RMU rushing attack with 220 yards and three touchdowns. Thomas Lee tops the Colonials in receiving with 14 receptions for 158 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively, Patrick McDonnell leads the Colonials with 33 tackles with Jakari Patterson adding 26 tackles. Gateway’s Jayson Jenkins is 2 for 2 on field goal attempts and is also averaging 40 yards per punt. RMU’s offense is averaging 15 points per game and the defense is allowing an average of 33 points per game.
Merrimack is an Independent FCS program that is 2-3 on the season with wins over Central Connecticut State and Division II Saint Anselm. The Warriors have incurred losses to Kent State, Kennesaw State and Stony Brook.
Merrimack is led by junior quarterback Ayden Pereira, who has thrown for 747 yards and three touchdowns. He has been intercepted twice. Pereira also leads the team in rushing with 337 yards on the ground.
