Nikolaos Chitikoudis’ layup with 2.4 seconds left capped a game-ending 15-3 run as Robert Morris posted an 80-78 victory at Green Bay Thursday night in the Horizon League men’s basketball opener.
Green Bay owned an 11-point lead with 3:54 left in the game but RMU clawed back to within four on Darius Livingston’s 3-pointer with 1:19 left.
Cam Wilds’ free throws brought RMU within two points, 77-75, with 40.9 seconds to go. On the next possession the Colonials’ defense forced a 10-second violation, which set up a Livingston 3-pointer with 19.6 seconds left to put RMU ahead 78-77.
Green Bay’s Justin Allen made the back end of his free throws to tie the contest at 78-78 with 16 seconds remaining. On the final possession, a driving Livingston found Chitikoudis in the paint for the shot that resulted in the 80-78 final score with 2.4 seconds left.
DeSean Goode finished with 18 points for Robert Morris, which improved to 7-3 overall with its fourth straight win. The Colonials outrebounded Green Bay 35-24 and 14-4 on the offensive boards. That resulted in 13 second-chance points for RMU to just two for Green Bay.
