RMU women’s basketball, after big win over rival Duquesne, visits Pitt

The Robert Morris women’s basketball team, coming off a big win over rival Duquesne Tuesday, will travel to Oakland to play the University of Pittsburgh at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Petersen Events Center.

The Colonials are 4-0, and their opponent from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) is 3-2 on the year.

The game against Pitt will mark the second “City Game” that the Colonials will participate in in less than a week.  On Tuesday, RMU took on the Duquesne Dukes from the Atlantic 10 Conference at home at the UPMC Events Center.

In front of a record-breaking crowd for Colonials’ women’s basketball, Robert Morris and Duquesne played a hard-fought game that went down to the final seconds before the Colonials prevailed, 64-62.

Robert Morris was led by Noa Givon, who poured in 21 points, including going 5 for 9 from 3-point range, and Myriam Traore, who scored 13 points.

Duquesne came into the game ranked second in the country in rebounding, but RMU kept pace and had three players grab five rebounds each — Eva Levingston, Ava Leroux and Traore.

Aislin Malcolm came through with a layup and a pair of free throws in the last few seconds of the game to complete the 64-62 win.

Mackenzie Blackford scored 16 points for Duquesne, and Harriet Ford added 15 points and 10 rebounds. The win over the Dukes was the first by RMU since 2009.

Pitt is led by Fatima Diakhate, who averages 14 points a game, followed by Carla Viegas, Angel Jones and Mikayla Johnson, who are all averaging 10 points a game.
