Robinson Township officials are banking on a state grant program to help fund needed repairs to the township’s swimming pool.
Specifically, township commissioners last week approved submission of a request for a $1 million grant from the Statewide Local Share Assessment program to renovate the Clever Park pool house.
The Local Share Account – or LSA – program distributes gaming revenues on a competitive basis to counties, municipalities, municipal authorities, economic development agencies, councils of government and other entities. The maximum grant amount available is $1 million.
Frank Piccolino, the township manager, said the grant program is extremely competitive and the township hasn’t received any LSA funds in the past.
The Clever Park pool was built in the mid to late 1970s and Piccolino said the existing pool house has issues with the sanitary sewer and water lines. Because the floors would need to essentially be ripped up to replace those lines, Piccolino said the township would like to renovate the entire pool house and make better use of the space.
“There’s a lot of wasted space,” he said. “We’re thinking of redoing the concession stand and maybe putting in some indoor seating.”
Piccolino said residents also have asked the township to install family restrooms, so that would be a possibility as well.
Piccolino said the township likely won’t find out until well into the new year if it’s successful in its request for the grant funds.
In the meantime, he said the township is planning to add a water line off the side of the pool house to help with the problem of the existing lines getting blocked.
