SETTLERS CABIN/CARNEGIE | Hard-to-recycle, glass and paper collection events

A hard-to-recycle collection event by the Pennsylvania Resources Council will be held Saturday, Oct. 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Settlers Cabin Wave Pool, 635 Ridge Road, Collier.

This will be the last hard-to-recycle event sponsored by PRC this year.

Individuals can drop off cell/home phones, computer towers and peripheral equipment like keyboards, laptops, and mice, expanded polystyrene packaging material, microwave ovens, video game consoles/DVD players and glass bottles, jugs and jars for free.

Other items like televisions and computer monitors, printers, fluorescent tubes, small Freon appliances and tires will cost a fee to recycle.

All participants must register in advance online or by calling (412) 488-7490 x 1.

Glass will be accepted for recycling, paper will be shredded and unwanted or expired drugs can be safely disposed of from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8 in Carnegie.

The glass recycling is sponsored by Carnegie Borough and Republic Services, while State Rep. Anita Kulik is sponsoring paper shredding.

The Allegheny County Sheriff’s Department’s Project D.U.M.P., will be on hand to dispose of expired and unwanted medication.
