Steelers surprise Cornell Raiders with donation of football gear

The Pittsburgh Steelers teamed up with a pair of corporate partners earlier this week to surprise the Cornell Raiders high school football team with a donation of X-Tech shoulder pads and football equipment.

The visit, which occurred Monday, Aug. 25, featured Steelers linebacker Alex Highsmith, who met with team members after their practice and presented them with the donation.

The equipment was made available through the Cover-2 Program run by X-Tech. The program works with individuals and organizations looking to give back to young football players by providing high school, college and youth programs with the latest equipment.

Dan Rooney, the Steelers’ vice president of business development and strategy, said that developing the next generation of football players is a top priority for the Steelers.

“Today’s donation is especially meaningful – not only because it enhances player safety but also because it builds confidence and supports performance,” Rooney said. “With properly fitted, top-quality gear, these young football players can focus fully on the game, knowing they are protected.”

Giant Eagle also participated in the project and is a co-presenting partner of the Steelers Youth Football platform with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
