A preliminary hearing has been set for Dec. 30 for three men charged with multiple counts of rape, sexual assault and other crimes in connection with an incident that police say involved two teenage girls and occurred at home in Kennedy Township over the weekend.
Dashawn Hines, 18, and Andre Hines, 20, both of McKees Rocks, and Amaud Berry, 18, of Virginia Beach, Va., were being held in the Allegheny County Jail Tuesday after bail was denied following their arrest Monday.
All three are charged with multiple felony counts of rape, sexual assault, unlawful restraint of a minor, unlawful contact with a minor and conspiracy as well as misdemeanor counts of simple assault, indecent assault, corruption of minors and possession of an instrument of crime.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, Kennedy police received a call at about 1 p.m. Sunday to check on the two girls, ages 14 and 16, after they were told the two girls were being held against their will by adults at a residence.
While responding to the call, officers found the two girls walking on Ewing Road, and the girls identified the home where they said they had been held. The two girls were then transported to UPMC Children’s Hospital for medical evaluation, and they were later interviewed by Allegheny County police detectives at the hospital.
There, the girls told detectives they had met a friend at the Waterfront in Homestead Saturday and traveled via rideshare to the Castle View Drive home with four other females and a juvenile male.
Once they arrived at the home, they met three other men who were later identified as Andre Hines, Dashawn Hines and Berry. According to the affidavit, both girls told detectives they used drugs and then were restrained – one with plastic zip ties and the other with duct tape – before being raped by the three men.
One of the girls told detectives that one of the men held a gun to her had and threatened to shoot her.
Both girls told detectives that all three men involved in the incident had firearms, and two of the firearms were seized during the execution of a search warrant at the Castle View Drive home late Sunday night, according to the affidavit.
It’s not known if all three defendants will take part in the preliminary hearing together. A District Attorney’s spokesperson said that would be determined by the Magisterial District judge and defense counsel.
