Top 10 summer activities in the West Hills for you and your family

You don’t have to leave the West Hills this summer to find a mix of outdoor adventures, family-friendly activities and local attractions. Here are the top 10 things to do in the West Hills during the next few months!

OUTDOORS

CORAOPOLIS: MONTOUR TRAIL

401 Montour St.

The Montour Trail is a 47-mile, relatively flat, multiuse rail trail that stretches from Coraopolis to Clairton. Ideal for walking, running and cycling, it offers scenic views and a peaceful escape into nature. The trail is part of a larger system connecting Pittsburgh to Washington, D.C.

ROBINSON: SETTLERS CABIN PARK

608 Ridge Road

Take several trips to the largest Allegheny County park in the West Hills this summer for the wave pool, swimming pool, picnics, tennis, dog park and a historic log cabin for which the park is named.

WYEP Summer Concert Series is coming to Settlers Cabin on Saturday, Sept. 6. Bands TBA.

CARNEGIE: PITCHER PARK MEMORIAL SKATE PARK

Forsythe Road

At 17,000 square feet, Pitcher Park is the largest concrete skatepark in the Greater Pittsburgh area, featuring a full pipe, bowls and a flowing street section. Both beginners and advanced skateboarders, BMX riders and rollerbladers can enjoy an action-filled day at this location.

MOON: GLOW RUN 5K

Friday, June 27, starting at 7:30 p.m.

1700 Beaver Grade Road

Light up Moon Township! Run and walk sporting bright clothes, glow sticks and neon face paint. The event features music, dancing, entertainment and more. $30 tickets in advance, $35 tickets day-of.

CORAOPOLIS: SECOND SATURDAYS

July 13 and Aug. 9, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Mill Street and Pine Way

Street festival with live music from Mingo Creek Band (July) and Tropicabana Band (August), cornhole and basketball tournaments, local vendors, food trucks and much more!

MOON: ROBIN HILL LUNCHTIME CONCERT SERIES

Third Wednesdays, Noon-1 p.m.

949 Thorn Run Road

Grab lunch from a food truck (or bring your own!) and listen to a free daytime concert in the park. Performers include Hillbillites Lite (country), Jerry DeMaria (tribute covers), Doo Wop Doctors, Turner and Black (‘90s classic rock and country), and Stray Dogs (‘70s and ‘80s hits).

ROBINSON: Kolor-N-Kiln

1230 Robinson Centre Drive

Spend a relaxing day painting ceremic pottery, glassware, wood and canvas at this family owned studio. No appointments needed for groups up to six people. Larger groups should call ahead.

Over 100 vendors and three floors of antiques, vintage clothing, furniture, artwork and more can be found at this unique indoor market. Grab an iced coffee from a nearby shop and spend some time inside for a break from the summer heat.
