Something has to give when Sto-Rox hosts Charleroi Friday night, Sept. 27, in a WPIAL Class A Century Conference football matchup.

Unless, of course, the two teams tie. Or the game gets wiped out by the weather.

Otherwise, either the Vikings or the visiting Cougars will come away with their first victory of the season.

Sto-Rox comes into its 7 p.m. homecoming contest with a Century Conference record of 0-2 and an overall mark of 0-4. Charleroi, meanwhile, has lost all five of its games, including both of its conference matchups.

In other action involving West Hills area high schools, Montour will look to stay unbeaten as it travels to meet Blackhawk; Moon hits the road to battle Bethel Park, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart visits Apollo-Ridge, Carlynton hosts Keystone Oaks, Bishop Canevin entertains Chartiers-Houston and Cornell hosts Serra Catholic.

All games are scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

Sto-Rox’s homecoming festivities will kick off with a parade that starts at 6 p.m. at Sanvito Funeral Home and proceeds down Broadway, onto Valley Street, and then on to the stadium entrance on Russellwood Avenue. The stadium gates will open at 5:30 p.m.

Sto-Rox is coming off a 41-16 defeat at the hands of Washington. Shaiky Yates scored on a 2-yard touchdown run for the Vikings, who trailed just 12-8 at one point, but Washington scored three straight touchdowns and won going away.

Derome Woodson’s 3-yard touchdown pass to Karic Willis accounted for Sto-Rox’s other score.

A week after making hay through the air, Montour relied on a balanced attack and an opportunistic defense to beat Mars, 31-14, last week to improve its overall record to 4-0. The Spartans will be making their Class 4A Parkway Conference debut Friday night.

Montour scored a pair of defensive touchdowns – one on James Bundridge’s 90-yard interception return and one on AJ Alston’s 91-yard pick six.

Blackhawk is 3-2 on the season.

Moon (3-1 overall) will take on an unbeaten (5-0) Bethel Park team in the Class 5A Allegheny Six Conference opener for both teams. The Tigers beat Seneca Valley, 42-13, last week, outgaining the Raiders 391-206.

OLSH evened its overall record at 2-2 and its Class 2A Allegheny Conference mark at 1-1 with a 28-7 win over Ligonier Valley last week. Vann Kavals tossed three touchdown passes for the Chargers and piled up 247 yards of offense – 132 through the air and 115 on the ground. Iseia Fields-Schulz caught six passes for 81 yards.

OLSH will face an Apollo-Ridge team that is 0-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Carlynton lost its Century Conference opener last week, 49-14, to Seton LaSalle and dropped to 3-2 overall. The Rebels exploded for 35 first-quarter points and were never threatened. Devonte Dean’s 20-yard scoring pass to Mark Jameson and John Sciulli’s 7-yard run accounted for the Cougars’ lone touchdowns.

Carlynton’s opponent – Keystone Oaks – is 2-0 in conference play and 2-2 overall.

Bishop Canevin will look to go 2-0 in Class A Black Hills Conference play and 4-1 overall when it entertains Chartiers-Houston (1-1, 3-2). The Crusaders claimed a hard-fought 29-22 win over Cornell last week, thanks in large part to the play of quarterback Kole Olszewski, who threw for 343 yards and four touchdowns.

Damar Olds caught seven passes for 126 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Myonte Mott rushed for 94 yards and caught a touchdown pass for Bishop Canevin.

Cornell, 1-1 in Black Hills Conference play and 4-1 overall, will look to get back on the winning track after last week’s loss to the Crusaders. Walter Clarit ran for two touchdowns and 70 yards while Khylil Johnson rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown.

Serra Catholic is 0-1 in the conference and 1-4 overall.
