West Hills will be well-represented at Wednesday’s WPIAL Track and Field Championships

A healthy contingent of West Hills athletes will be among those battling for medals at Wednesday’s 2025 WPIAL Track and Field Championships, which will take place at Slippery Rock University’s William C. Lennox Track.

Moon Area will send one of its largest ever groups to the Class 3A competition, as 31 Tigers earned their way to the meet.

Montour will have 16 athletes competing in the Class 3A meet while Carlynton will be represented by 17 boys and girls in the Class 2A meet. Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, meanwhile, will have 13 athletes either competing or on hand as alternates.

Competition will get under way at 11 a.m.

In the Class 2A event, the first three in each preliminary heat plus the next two best times will qualify for the finals. In the Class 3A prelims, the first two finishers in each heat plus the next two best times reach the finals.

In all field events except the high jump and pole vault, each contestant will receive three trials in the prelims. The top nine in each event will receive three additional attempts in the finals.

Moon has several competitors who enter Wednesday’s meet with one of the top five marks in their respective events.

Junior Lydia Delsite is ranked No. 1 in the triple jump at 38 feet, 2 inches and she also qualified in the high jump and long jump. Maria Depner has the top mark in the discus at 129-02.

Jaedin Griggs had the best mark in the triple jump but will not compete due to injury.

Freshman Rachel Stepp owns the WPIAL’s No. 2 time (55.98 seconds) in the 400-meter dash.

On the boys side, Tyler Giunipero has the No. 2 mark in the 3,200 meters (9:16.09) and the No. 4 mark in the 1,600. Benjamin Delsite is ranked No. 4 in the triple jump with a mark of 44-08.25 and also will compete in the long jump. Samuel Herrera is No. 3 in the 800 with a time of 1:55.87.

Other Moon athletes scheduled to compete include Elise Ashcroft, Jacob Bailey, Braden Bines, Jake Daniello, Jake Duncan, Morgan Erkens, Brayden Freund, Donald Goodwin, Marcus McGill, Jared Moyer, Hailey Mowery, Kosi Odigboh, Madison Puthoff, Alexis Schuler, Ellen Senkevich, Evan Senkevich, Bailey Simon, Ryan Slawuta, Evan Slawuta, Jayden Smith, Alyson Stepp, Alena Taylor, Sona Taylor and Elijah Thomas.

Representing Montour will be Lindsey Armitage, Abigail Baldauff, Camryn Connolly, Alyssa Francis, Chloe Hornyak, Elise Hornyak, Sophia Saginaw, Teagan Schaltenbrand, Joelle Ludwick, Tiffany Miller, Mika Scott, Tyan Torbert, David Clay, Lucas Benson, Andrew Ludwick and Brady Tarquinio.

In Class 2A, representing OLSH will be Gianna Mosca, Charlotte Gauntner, Ashlyn Johnson, Lindsay Bressler, Hannah Hayes, Mira Mosca, Trey Moses and Eva Crofford. Alternates are Margaret Sweeney, Emily Funka, Libby Gallic, Shae Trombetta and Ava Ziemniak. Gianna Mosca finished fifth in the 3,200 at last year’s WPIAL meet and earned a berth in the PIAA meet. Mira Mosca also medaled at last year’s WPIAL meet, finishing eighth in the same event.

For Carlynton, 13 girls will either compete or serve as alternates. Qualifiers are Bridget McNamara, Riley Mauro, Clare Ruffing, Lani Blevins, Jordynn Carter, Hayleigh Loeffert, Isabella Sysak, Grace Prepelka and Milad Majed. Alternates are Aireonya White, Kennedy Segeleon, Ava Pancake and Maria Leithauser.

On the boys side, Jermell Lindsay, Henry Barbisch and Ryan Lewis will represent Carlynton.

Carter owns the third-best mark in the long jump entering the meet at 18-08 and is also No. 4 in the triple jump at 37-04.

The Cougars’ 4×100-meter relay group of Loeffert, Carter, Ruffing and Mauro posted the fifth-fastest time (50.33) so far this year and the 4×800 relay group of Sysak, Prepelka, McNamara and Blevins own the third-fastest time (9:59.36) entering the meet.

Lewis comes in at No. 5 in the long jump at 21-09.
