Boys volleyball: Moon Area suffers second straight loss; OLSH opens season with win

The Moon Area boys volleyball team absorbed its second loss in as many nights Tuesday, falling to North Hills in straight sets in a WPIAL nonsection match at Moon.

North Hills won by set scores of 25-23, 25-16, 25-19. On Monday, the Tigers fell to Hopewell in straight sets by scores of 25-20, 25-17, 25-18.

In Tuesday night’s match, North Hills trailed 18-10 in the first set before rallying for the victory. The Indians then jumped to a 19-9 lead in the second set and cruised the rest of the way to go up 2-0.

In the third set, North Hills built a 23-13 lead, then watched Moon pull to within 23-19 before scoring two straight points to wrap up the sweep.

Kill leaders were Ayden Anderson-Simmons (6), Noah Bogatay (5) and Logan Anderson-Stewart (4). Anderson Stewart racked up his first double double of the season with 10 digs and 16 assists along with three aces. The Tigers hit .231 as a team. 

In Monday night’s loss to Hopewell, Anderson-Simmons and Bogatay led Moon with seven kills each. Shane Johns led with 10 digs.

The Chargers posted a sweep in their season-opener Tuesday, winning by set scores of 25-11, 25-14, 25-13.
