Deluzio: Should smartphones be in classrooms?

This summer, I asked every school district in Pennsylvania’s 17th Congressional District a simple question: will you have a classroom smartphone ban in place for the coming school year?

I did this because I’m a dad of four, I see the clear evidence that smartphones in the classroom are hurting learning, and I think we’ve got to do more to help our kids learn in the face of Big Tech pushing their addictive and distracting devices and apps on our kids.

Now I want to hear from you as we start a new school year: do you think that schools should ban smartphones in K-12 classrooms? Take my one-question survey here.

We’ve seen a lot of interest in this issue since I first announced my push to protect our kids from smartphone addiction and set them up to succeed at school. At the state level in Harrisburg, there is a bill backed by both Republicans and Democrats to make every Pennsylvania school phone-free all day. And I’ve heard from lots of parents, teachers, and Western Pennsylvanians from both political parties about how we’ve got to make our classrooms free of smartphone distractions, so our kids can focus on learning.

What do you think? Please take a minute to let me know and fill out my survey.
