Funding boost for West Hills community projects
A trio of projects in the West Hills will share in $1.4 million in funding from the Allegheny County Main Streets Program.
Coraopolis Borough is slated to receive $30,000 to help fund Discover Coraopolis, a marketing campaign designed to elevate the visibility of the Coraopolis Business District and strengthen support for local businesses.
Through unified branding, storytelling, physical signage and a strong digital presence, the campaign invites residents and visitors to experience all that Coraopolis has to offer, aiming to increase foot traffic, boost local spending and build a vibrant, connected downtown.
Carnegie Borough will receive $68,125 for its Streetscape/Main Street Parking project, which consists of updating and replacing concrete sidewalks and curbs around the Main Street Parking
Lot that must be replaced due to weather-related deterioration. The next phase of the project would include new bollards to provide reliable security while enhancing the community.
Carnegie also is sharing in a $100,000 award that is going toward a Tri-Community Streetscape & Beautification Project that also includes Scott and Heidelberg.
The coordinated corridor project will enhance the appearance, walkability, comfort and safety of a heavily traveled local corridor by installing public trash receptacles, benches, high-visibility pedestrian crossings and small-scale community space enhancements.
A total of 22 municipalities in the county will receive funding through the Main Streets program.
Linden Avenue meeting set
The Crafton Planning Commission will hold a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, to begin the community engagement process for Imagine Linden – a visioning project launched by the borough and the Carlynton School District focusing on jointly owned property at Steuben Street and South Linden Avenue.
The meeting will be held in the Crafton Community Center, 140 Bradford Ave. in Crafton.
OHM Advisors, the consultant hired by the borough, will share a brief presentation on the project and process, followed by an open forum that will allow those in attendance to ask questions and share ideas and feedback.
No formal action by the commission is anticipated.

Sto-Rox schools meeting set
The Sto-Rox School District invites families, staff and community members to attend the State of Our Schools Address and Town Hall set for 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, at Focus on Renewal, 420 Chartiers Ave in McKees Rocks.
District Superintendent Sonya Coleman will provide an update on the district’s progress, priorities and vision for the future. This is an opportunity to learn more about the work taking place across Sto-Rox schools, celebrate successes and hear what’s ahead for the district.
Topics will include:
- Student achievement and academic progress
- School safety and student well-being
- Financial stewardship and fiscal transparency
- Progress on the district’s strategic plan
- Facilities and capital improvements
- The district’s vision for preparing every student for college, career and life
