Well over a dozen fire and EMS companies in the West Hills will receive a financial hand through the Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant program.
State Rep. Anita Kulik, D-Allegheny, said Wednesday that more than $229,000 in state grants were awarded to 14 fire and EMS companies in the 45th Legislative District.
Kulik said the funding may be used toward facility renovations, equipment, debt reduction, training and more.
“No one should have to wonder whether their local fire company has the equipment and resources to respond in an emergency,” Kulik said. “These grants help make sure that when our neighbors call for help, our local first responders are ready.”
Among the entities within the 45th District receiving funding are:
- Rennerdale Volunteer Fire Department – $14,281
- Carnegie Volunteer Fire and Rescue – $13,663
- Stowe Township Volunteer Fire Department – $39,518
- Moon Run Volunteer Fire Co. – $16,136
- Neville Island General Volunteer Fire Department – $13,044
- Kennedy Township Independent Volunteer Fire Co. – $14,487
- Forest Grove Volunteer Fire Department – $16,136
- Coraopolis Volunteer Fire Department – $13,250
- Robinson Township Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 – $13,869
Rep. Dan Deasy, D-Allegheny, who represents the 27th Legislative District, said when people call 911, they are counting on firefighters and EMS personnel to arrive ready to help.
“Whether it is upgrading life-saving equipment, modernizing facilities or investing in the training that helps our crews handle any emergency, every dollar of these investments will make a difference for our local men and women on the front lines,” Deasy said.
Among those receiving funding in the 27th District are:
- Crafton Volunteer Fire Department – $15,724
- East Carnegie Volunteer Fire Department – $14,281
- Glendale Hose Co. No. 1 (Carnegie) – $13,663
Other entities sharing in funding are:
- Independent Hose Co. No. 5 (McKees Rocks) – $12,426
- Moon Township Volunteer Fire Co – $16,137
- Quaker Valley Ambulance Authority – $15,000
- Valley Ambulance Authority, $15,000
- Robinson EMS Inc. – $15,000
