Isabella Sysak erupted for 23 points and host Bishop Canevin steadily pulled away to post a 53-27 victory over Avella Thursday night in a WPIAL Class 1A Section 2 girls basketball game.
The win evened Bishop Canevin’s section record at 3-3 and left the Crusaders 4-7 overall.
Bishop Canevin led 13-4 after one quarter and 26-12 at halftime and continued to put distance between itself and Avella in the final two quarters to coast to the victory.
Kya Cooley added 16 points, with 12 of them coming in the second half, for the Crusaders and Elena Chadish contributed six.
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 69, New Brighton 9
Camryn Hummel’s 12 points led the way as the Chargers cruised past the host Lions in a Class 3A Section 1 game.
OLSH held New Brighton scoreless in three of the four quarters; the Lions scored all nine of their points in the third quarter.
OLSH, which led 44-0 at halftime, improved to 8-4 overall and 4-1 in section play.
McKeira Bailey scored five of New Brighton’s nine points.
Riverside 49, Sto-Rox 24
Ashley Hare scored a game-high 21 points and the Panthers used a big second half to subdue the host Vikings in a Class 3A Section 1 matchup.
Sto-Rox, which fell to 5-6 overall and 2-4 in section play, trailed just 21-17 at halftime.
But Riverside outscored the Vikings 14-3 in the third quarter and added to its lead with a 14-4 fourth-quarter outburst to seal the win.
Emma Stockman added 14 points for Riverside.
Kamiyah Thompson scored seven points to lead Sto-Rox.
South Side (Beaver) 17, Carlynton 14
The Rams converted several Cougars turnovers into fast-break layups at the other end, and that proved to be the difference in this Class 2A Section 2 game at Carlynton.
Neither team had a player who scored in double figures. Carlynton managed just two points in each of the second and fourth quarters in dropping to 3-8 overall and 0-4 in section play.
West Allegheny 69, Moon Area 44
Emma Ruperto led three players in double figures with 19 points, sparking the Indians past the Tigers in a Class 5A Section 3 game.
West Allegheny led by seven at the end of the opening quarter, 19-12, but a 15-5 edge in the second quarter widened its advantage to 34-17 at halftime.
Alexis Santucci added 18 points for the Indians and Sky Gubba chipped in 16.
Maria Depner’s 14 points led Moon, which fell to 4-8 overall and 1-4 in section play. Adriana D’Alesio added 10 points for the Tigers.
