Girls basketball: Montour tops Moon; OLSH, Bishop Canevin post wins

Reese Vojtecky scored 14 of her game-high 20 points in the second half to lead Montour to a 49-43 come-from-behind victory over host Moon Area Monday night in a Class 5A Section 3 girls basketball game.

Montour led 15-14 at the end of the first quarter but the Tigers wound up with a 24-21 halftime lead.

Moon continued to lead heading into the final quarter, 40-35, but the Spartans outscored the Tigers 14-3 in the final quarter to claim the win.

Vojtecky scored six of Montour’s 14 fourth-quarter points.

Tiffany Miller added 14 points for the Spartans, who improved to 11-3 overall and 3-3 in section play.

Maria Depner scored 12 points to lead Moon, which fell to 4-8 overall and 1-4 in the section.

Adriana D’Alesio added 14 points for the Tigers.


Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 51, Mohawk 8

Leah Parker and Lola Garner each finished with 13 points to help the Chargers whip the Warriors in a Class 3A Section 1 game at the Angela Activities Center.

OLSH, now 10-3 overall and 4-2 in section play, led 18-8 at the end of one quarter and then blanked the Warriors over the final three quarters.

Sara Daeschner added 10 points for OLSH. Addy Maskal’s six points paced Mohawk.


Bishop Canevin 47, Mapletown 23

Isabella Sysak scored a game-high 22 points and the visiting Crusaders used a strong defensive effort to subdue the Maples in a Class 1A Section 2 game.

Gianna Matthews added 13 points for the winners, who led 14-5 at the end of one quarter and 26-9 at halftime.

Bishop Canevin improved to 4-8 overall and 3-3 in section play.


Burgettstown 40, Carlynton 17

The Cougars trailed by just five at halftime, but the host Blue Devils took control in the second half to win the Class 2A Section 2 matchup.

Burgettstown outscored Carlynton 25-7 in the second half, taking advantage of a number of Cougars turnovers and missed shots.

Paige Klodowski scored 20 points to lead Burgettstown. Nia McGinnis led Carlynton, now 3-8 and 0-4, with six points.
