High school roundup: Carlynton baseball rallies to beat Brentwood; Moon posts baseball, softball wins

Tyler Heinrich’s two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning capped a wild late rally and gave Carlynton a 9-8 victory over Brentwood Thursday in a WPIAL Class 2A Section 3 baseball game at Carlynton.

Carlynton trailed 5-0 going into the bottom of the fifth before scoring once in that inning and then after giving up two more runs in the top of the sixth, scored six times in the bottom of that inning to cut the deficit to 8-7.

In the seventh, Graydon Harvey singled and moved to third on Isaac Anker’s single. Following a walk to Eric Firle, Heinrich delivered his one-out game-winning hit for the Cougars.

Anker led Carlynton’s 14-hit attack by going 4 for 5 with two runs scored. Firle went 3 for 3 with two RBIs and Michael Jenkins added two hits and two runs batted in. Harvey also had two hits, an RBI and scored three times.


Moon Area 12, Chartiers Valley 2

Will Swisher’s two-run homer sparked a six-run first inning that sent the Tigers on their way to a Class 5A Section 2 win over the Colts.

Ryan Joyce added a three-run double in the same frame for Moon and a sixth run scored on an error.

Swisher later drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Andrew Cross doubled home a pair of runs and added an RBI triple.

Vandetti, Cross and Jayden Bittner each finished with two hits for the Tigers.

Starter Nate Weber worked four innings for Moon and allowed just two hits and no runs. He struck out two and did not walk a batter.


Riverside 21, Sto-Rox 0

The Raiders scored 10 runs in the second inning and then put the game away in the third with 11 more in a Class 3A Section 1 game.

Logan Young led Riverside with three hits and three RBIs while Jackson Barber drove in four runs and Alex Weisz had two hits and added three RBIs.


SOFTBALL

Moon Area 4, Upper St. Clair 3

The Tigers built a 4-1 lead through five innings and held on to beat the Panthers in a Class 5A Section 3 game at Upper St. Clair.

Leona Harn’s RBI triple put Moon on top 1-0 in the first and a second run scored on an error.

The Tigers added single runs in the fourth and fifth, with one run scoring on a fielder’s choice and another on Brooklyn Kemp’s RBI single.

Ashlyn Sheffler had a hit, scored a run and drove in a run for Moon while Sydney Ray had two hits and scored a run.


BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Pine-Richland 3, Moon Area 0

The Rams swept the Tigers in Class 3A Section 1 play, winning by scores of 25-14, 25-19 and 25-16.

Logan Anderson-Stewart led Moon with eight kills while Ayden Anderson-Simmons contributed six kills in the loss.


BOYS LACROSSE

Moon Area 11, Seton LaSalle 5

Tristan Miller, Tyler Zeigler and Sebastian Bedoloto each netted three goals to power the Tigers past the Rebels in a non-section match at Montour Junction.

Miller and Ziegler each added assists for the Tigers. Mason Coburn contributed three assists while Brody Eckert and Ryder Zalin added one goal and one assist each. Zach Truzzi also chipped in with a goal and Aiden Scott had one assist.

Moon’s goaltending played a major role in the win, with 14 saves by Zac Breeden and five saves by John DiSilverio.


FLAG FOOTBALL

Keystone Oaks 33, Moon Area 7

The Tigers managed just one touchdown in a Section 4 loss to the Eagles, and that came on a pick-six by Gianna Reynolds.

Lilly Barr completed a pass to Avery Pacheco for the point-after touchdown, but that would be the last score for Moon.
