Emmy Ellis’ RBI single with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Montour to a 4-3 victory over visiting South Fayette Thursday in a WPIAL Class 5A Section 3 softball game at Montour.
The Spartans trailed 3-2 entering the bottom of the seventh before rallying for the walkoff win.
Caylee Moser led off the inning with a single and Alexa Richardson followed with a base hit. Natalie Ciamacco made it three straight singles, and that hit brought home Moser with the tying run.
After the next hitter was retired, Ellis singled to center, scoring Richardson with the game-winning run.
Montour’s other two runs came in the fourth inning and gave the Spartans a 2-0 lead. Paige Fiedler’s two-run single was the big hit in that inning.
That lead held up until South Fayette scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to wipe out Montour’s lead, but the Lions’ lead proved to be short-lived.
Emily McClean had two of Montour’ seven hits and Savannah McClean worked four shutout innings to start the game for the Spartans.
