High school roundup: OLSH claims baseball, softball wins; Montour softball whips Chartiers Valley

Bruno Williams’ two-run single keyed a four-run fifth-inning rally that lifted Our Lady of the Sacred Heart to a 5-2 victory over Brentwood Tuesday in a WPIAL Class 2A Section 3 baseball game at Brentwood.

Williams finished with three of the Chargers’ eight hits and contributed three RBIs.

Dean Douglass added two hits and scored two runs for OLSH, which went on top with a run in the first inning on Williams’ RBI single.

After Brentwood tied the score with a run in the fourth, OLSH answered with four runs in the top of the fifth. In addition to Williams’ two-run single, the Chargers benefited from a pair of Spartans’ errors that led to two more runs.

Owen Minzer and James Hanna each had a hit and scored a run for OLSH.

Ryan DeNinno went the distance on the mound for the Chargers, limiting Brentwood to six hits and two runs while walking four and striking out five.


Eden Christian Academy 12, Bishop Canevin 2

Brady Hull collected three hits and drove in five runs to help the Warriors down the Crusaders in a Class 1A Section 3 matchup.

Eden Christian scored four runs in the second inning to snap a 1-1 tie and never looked back. Hull slammed a two-run homer in that inning and Josh Tilder, who also had three hits, had a two-run single.

Bishop Canevin managed just four hits off Eden Christian’s Noah Emswiler, who walked two and struck out nine. Jackson Maddix had two hits and drove in both Crusaders runs.


Keystone Oaks 7, Carlynton 4

Bryce Altenbaugh’s two-run double in the seventh inning gave the Eagles some needed breathing room in defeating the Cougars in a non-section game at Carlynton.

Carlynton scored three runs in the third inning to wipe out a 3-1 deficit, but Keystone Oaks answered with one in the fourth and then added one in the sixth and two in the seventh to nail down the win.

The Eagles committed three errors in the third inning, accounting for all three of the Cougars’ runs in that frame.

Carlynton managed just three hits in the game – one each by Graydon Harvey, Isaac Anker and Tyler Heinrich. Harvey scored two of Carlynton’s four runs.


Ellwood City 19, Sto-Rox 0

Jake Biskup and Jordan Keller each drove in two runs for the Wolverines, who needed just two innings to subdue the Vikings in a Class 3A Section 1 game at Ellwood City.

Ellwood City took advantage of seven Sto-Rox errors and 13 walks in picking up the win.


SOFTBALL

Montour 9, Chartiers Valley 4

Cayley Hughes and Hailey Herbst each collected three hits to lead a 15-hit attack that propelled the Spartans to a Class 5A Section 3 victory over the host Colts.

Montour jumped to a 3-0 first-inning lead and cruised to the win, holding Chartiers Valley to one run until the final inning.

Caylee Moser’s two-run single sparked the first-inning rally and the Spartans’ other run scored on an error. Two more errors led to a pair of runs in the second inning and Hughes singled home two runs in the fifth inning for Montour.

Emily McClean, Natalie Ciamacco and Moser each finished with two hits for the Spartans.

Alexa Richardson pitched a complete-game six-hitter and yielded one earned run for Montour.


Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 5, Fort Cherry 3

Mya Eshenbaugh slugged a three-run homer in the third inning, and that proved to be the big hit as the Chargers built a 5-0 lead and held on to defeat the host Rangers in a Class 2A Section 3 game

Eshenbaugh finished with three hits and scored twice for OLSH. Nevaeh Morin and Sydney Trippe each contributed an RBI single in the victory.

Sophia Wasko gave up three hits in 5 2/3 innings of relief work, allowing no earned runs and one walk while striking out six.


Burgettstown 15, Carlynton 0

Brooklyn Robinson had two hits and drove in four runs and Raya Sentipal added two hits and three RBIs as the host Blue Devils pounded the Cougars in a Class 2A Section 3 game that ended after Burgettstown scored eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Carlynton managed just two hits, both by Ava Barber.
