High school roundup: OLSH softball falls to Deer Lakes; Montour tandem set for WPIAL tennis

Natalia Lisotto’s RBI single in the second inning was the only run Deer Lakes would need Saturday in a 2-0 victory over Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in a non-section softball game at Deer Lakes.

Riley Jones led off the second with a base hit and wound up at third after a pair of passed balls. Following a walk, Jones scored on Lisotto’s single, and a fielder’s choice allowed Lisotto to score the Lancers’ second run.

OLSH managed just two hits off Deer Lakes pitcher Laney Dineff – a triple by Mya Eshenbaugh and a single by Lizzie Smith. Eshenbaugh tripled to lead off the second but was caught attempting to steal home. Smith singled with two outs in the fifth but was stranded there.

OLSH pitcher Camryn Hummel allowed six hits and four walks while striking out three.

Montour’s tandem of Jonah Camardese and Trey Varga will be seeded No. 7 among 16 teams in next week’s Class 2A tournament, which will get underway Tuesday, April 21, at Bethel Park High School.

South Park’s Jonah Jasek and Steven Duing, who defeated Camardese and Varga in last week’s section tournament finals, are the top-seeded tandem in the WPIAL tournament.

Camardese and Varga, who were seeded No. 2 in the section tournament, defeated Max Kline and Xavier O’Leary of Carlynton, 10-2, in the quarterfinals of the Section 2 tournament, then posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Grant Goodman and Matthew DeAndrea of South Park in the semifinals before falling 6-1, 6-2 to Jasek and Duing in the finals.
