High school swimming: Moon Area beats Butler, falls to Seneca Valley

The Moon area boys and girls swim teams both lost to Seneca Valley Thursday night in a dual meet at Seneca Valley.

In the boys meet, Seneca Valley prevailed, 98-82, and the Raiders won the girls meet 99-81.

Despite the loss, Moon had several outstanding individual and relay efforts.

On the girls side, Madison Puthoff raced to top finishes in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 breaststroke events and swam on the winning 400 freestyle relay group with Mimi Munnell, Addi Munnell and Elli Patterson.

Four other Tigers claimed individual victories in the girls meet. Mimi Munnell won the 200 free, Addi Munnell took the 100 butterfly, Patterson won the 100 backstroke and Ria Schwartz won the 1-meter diving competition.

In the boys meet, Isaac Tennant won two individual events – the 50 free and the 100 butterfly – and helped the Tigers’ 400 freestyle relay unit to a top finish.

Garrett Rash and Damien McGill each claimed one individual victory, with Rash taking the 100 breaststroke and Rash the 1-meter diving.

Rash also joined Tennant, Daniel Sirbu and Chris Bailey in the winning 400 free relay effort.

In the Tigers’ dual meet with Butler last week, the boys prevailed 97-45 and the girls claimed a 98-87 victory.

Puthoff won the 200 IM and 100 freestyle and helped the 200 free relay and 200 medley relay squads to victories.

Patterson won the 50 free and swam on winning 200 free and 200 medley relay groups while Addi Munnell was on the same relay units and placed first in the 100 back.

Anya Muralidharan won the 100 breaststroke and Mimi Munnell took part in two winning relay efforts.

On the boys side, Tennant was the lone individual double-event winner, as he took first in the 50 free and 500 free, and he also swam on the winning 400 free and 200 free relay teams.

Single individual event winners were Troy Hickman (200 free), Bailey (200 IM), McGill (1-meter dive), Sirbu (100 free) and Rash (100 breast).

Hickman also swam on the 200 medley relay with Sirbu, Rash and Tennant and helped the 400 free relay to a first-place finish along with Tennant, Sirbu and Rash. Bailey joined Evan Slawuta, Logan Ellis and Ryan Slawuta in the 200 freestyle relay.

Moon will take on Pine-Richland Thursday at home in its final dual meet of the season and will host the Midwestern Athletic Conference swimming and diving championships Friday and Saturday.
