Getting pins from three wrestlers, the Montour Spartans posted a 47-17 victory over host Blackhawk Wednesday night in a WPIAL Class 3A Section 1 dual meet.
Winning by fall for Montour were Damon Nelson at 121 pounds, Ethan Chacon at 138 and Jacob Halbedl at 285.
Nelson stopped Blackhawk’s Brecken Vandecoevering at 4 minutes, 32 seconds of their bout at 121. Chacon needed just under 2 minutes to pin Blackhawk’s Lance Owens at 139 and Halbedl pinned Roman Javens at 1:32.
Montour’s Parker Sedlock defeated Aliyah Acierno by technical fall at 114 pounds in the only other contested match won by the Spartans. Montour also won four matches by forfeit.
Moon Area 42, West Allegheny 25
The Tigers, fresh off a second-place finish at last weekend’s Allegheny County Championships, used pins from Tristan Esken, Maximus Gould, Michael Olszewski and Khalil Razipour in downing the Indians in a Class 3A Section 1 dual meet at West Allegheny.
Esken, competing at 107 pounds, pinned Isaac Schepis at 2 minutes, 23 seconds. Gould, wrestling at 160, stopped Graysen Gardner at 1:05.
Olszewski pinned Blake Schepis at 3:05 of their match at 189 and Razipour registered his pin of Gavin Kesler at 1:28 of their 215-pound bout.
Elsewhere for Moon, Hayden Seymour posted a win by major decision over Lucas Carson at 121; Cael Yanek edged AJ Snatchko, 4-3, at 133; and Zachary Regotti won by technical fall over Mason Bryan at 145.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Environmental Charter 63, Cornell 57
The Hawks used a fierce fourth-quarter rally to down the Raiders Wednesday night in a nonsection game between two Class 1A squads.
Cornell, which fell to 3-13 overall with the loss, led 39-29 at halftime and 52-41 heading into the final eight minutes. But Environmental Charter outscored Cornell 23-5 to grab the win.
Caleb Dalton’s 20 points led Environmental Charter. Eduardo Benitez scored 23 points to pace Cornell while Terrance Collington added 15 and Zy’Air Dupree 10.
