Four members of the Moon Area boys golf team passed their sectional qualifying tests Wednesday and earned berths in next week’s WPIAL Class 3A Individual Championships.

Matthew Koch, Ian Bonidie, Patrick Queen and Evan Harper all met the target score of 81 on the par-72 Quicksilver Golf Club at the Section 6 qualifier.

Koch finished second overall in the sectional event, shooting 74. Bonidie shot 76 to finish fourth while Queen and Harper both carded 77s to finish in a tie for sixth.

The first round of the WPIAL Individual Championships will take place Monday, Sept. 28, at Hannastown Golf Club in Greensburg, and the final round will be held Monday, Oct. 5, at Sewickley Heights Golf Club.

Moon’s Liv DeGori qualified earlier this week for the girls Class 3A Championships, which also will start Monday at Hillcrest Country Club and conclude Monday, Oct. 5, at Valleybrook Country Club.

GIRLS SOCCER

Moon Area 8, Trinity 0

Junie Shaver netted a hat trick and four other players scored at least one goal to lead the Tigers past the Hillers in a Class 3A Section 2 contest.

Emma Jones added two goals for Moon while Alena Taylor, Riley LaFayette and Sara Tatala each contributed one.

Jones and Maddie Shaver each collected two assists while Taylor, LaFayette and Junie Shaver each had one for Moon, which improved to 4-4-1 overall and 2-3 in the section.

Montour 2, West Allegheny 2

Irelyn Hobbs scored both goals for the Spartans, as they fought to a tie with the Indians in a Class 3A Section 2 match.

Montour’s record moved to 6-1-2 overall and 3-0-2 with the tie, and the Spartans are tied for first place with South Fayette. West Allegheny is 2-0-3 in the section and 5-0-4 overall.

Sewickley Academy 7, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 2

The Panthers led 2-0 at halftime and then poured in five more goals in the second half to overpower the Chargers in a Class 1A Section 1 match and remain unbeaten at 7-0-0. OLSH fell to 4-4 overall and 1-3 in the section.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 3, Chartiers-Houston 1

The Chargers improved to 6-1 overall by downing the Buccaneers 25-14, 25-14, 21-25, 25-17 in a nonsection match at OLSH’s Angela Activities Center.

Bella Coladonato led the way with 13 kills, two aces and eight digs while Addy Batts had seven kills, seven aces and two blocks. Ashlyn Curry finished with nine kills and 16 digs, Macie Trombetta collected 10 kills, four aces and 10 digs, Karstyn Soulidis and Elin Gabor each had 12 digs and Fiona Shipley added 10 digs.

Carmella Rippole contributed 28 assists and Isabell Rodgers finished with 16 assists.
