High schools: OLSH girls prevail in cross country, Montour soccer wins
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart’s girls cross country team came up big over the weekend, finishing on top in their division in a meet at the Hoka Night Cross Country Showcase at the Spire Academy in Geneva, Ohio.
The Chargers topped a field of 44 teams and 277 runners to take home top honors at the night race, which featured glowing lights through dark trails.
Mira Mosca of OLSH led the way to a ninth-place finish overall with a time of 19 minutes, 40 seconds.
Hannah Hayes placed 15th and medaled with a time of 20:00. Jules Goshen finished six seconds behind Hayes to place 22nd and Eva Crofford also medaled with Goshen by placing 31st with a time of 20:33.
Freshman Ellie Green finished the team scoring by placing 40th with a time of 20:47.
GIRLS SOCCER
Montour 3, Upper St. Clair 2
Irelynn Hobbs totaled all three goals for the Spartans and collected six during her team’s two games at the South Hills Classic.
Brooklyn Young, Riley Fusco and Syd Toulouse assisted on Hobbs’ three goals Sunday.
Montour fell 4-3 to Fort LeBouef on Saturday. Hobbs scored all three goals and Fusco had an assist.
BOYS SOCCER
Moon Area 2, Upper St. Clair 2
Hayden Dunn found the net twice for the second day in a row as the Tigers rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie the Panthers at the JRK Classic, played at Pine-Richland High School.
Upper St. Clair built a 2-0 lead in the second half before Dunn scored two goals to pull his team even.
Liam Bacu and Evan Anders each had an assist on Dunn’s goals for the Tigers, who improved to 1-0-1. Moon returns to action Tuesday at Peters Township.
Gateway 2, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 1
Grant Griesacker converted a penalty kick for the Chargers, as they fell for the second straight day in the Plum Soccer Kickoff Tournament.
The loss left OLSH with an 0-2-0 record on the young season.
