Police Chief Mike Vogel is a regular fixture in and around McKees Rocks where the Allegheny County Housing Authority is headquartered.

Soon he’ll be known to police departments statewide. Leader of the Allegheny County Housing Authority’s department since 1998, Vogel, 57, was recently installed as the president of the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association.

As president, the Bethel Park resident will be in charge of several different programs including training and recruitment. The governor’s office funds the organization and often advocates for legislation and best practices across the state.

“It’s a prestigious accomplishment,” Vogel said.

Vogel has been the chairman of the legislative committee before and was promoted from first vice president within the state’s chiefs of police association.
