Kennedy native to perform hometown show in new year

Kennedy Township singer/songwriter Luke Gallagher is proof you CAN go home again.

He’s planning a Happy New Year Hometown Show on Saturday, January 4 at JD’s Joint, a Kennedy Township bar and grille where Jameson and Bushmill whiskeys (known in Gaelic as the water of life), Guinness stout and Bailey’s Irish Cream liqueur is served.

To Gallagher, there’s a comfort factor in playing in his hometown. “I’m super excited. It’s always nice to come home to Kennedy and the nostalgia of having grown up here,” he said.

Gallagher, who hails from a large musical family, started performing at the age of 3, at an annual St. Patrick’s Day show for family, friends and neighbors.

If his name sounds familiar, it’s because he’s the nephew of popular local Irish entertainer Mike Gallagher.

The Montour High School and Penn State University graduate started playing gigs in Pittsburgh in 2015, before moving to Virginia for four years to work as an interactive producer for Cortina Productions, which specializes in interactive and interactive touch screen exhibits for museums and sports centers. He returned to Pittsburgh in 2019, and now works remotely for Cortina.

The pandemic interrupted his performing until last summer, when he started playing to packed houses throughout the area with a blend of different genres, hits from the 90s and 2000s, classic rock and singer/songwriter spins on acoustic pop that he calls “a little bit of everything.”

Gallagher is looking forward to reconnecting with old friends at his Happy New Year Hometown Show. “It’s going to be really exciting.”

JD’s Joint is located  in the Kenmawr Plaza, 564 Pine Hollow Road, Kennedy. Hometown show is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, January 4. Steelers game to follow.
