McKees Rocks man identified in stabbing, subsequent fatal vehicle accident

A man whom authorities said entered a Robinson Township home Sunday morning and stabbed two residents, then fled in a stolen vehicle that later crashed on Interstate 576, killing him, was identified as a 36-year-old McKees Rocks resident.

The Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner identified the man as Brian Allen Thomas and fixed his time of death at 8:35 a.m. Sunday.

County police reported Sunday that the department’s Homicide Unit had responded to a request for assistance after county 911 was notified at 8:08 a.m. of a reported stabbing in the 100 block of K Row in Moon Run, Robinson Township.

First responders found a juvenile male victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim was taken to an area hospital in critical but stable condition. An adult female was also determined to have suffered multiple lacerations and was treated at the hospital for minor injuries.

Preliminary information showed that Thomas, whom the victims knew, entered the residence and stabbed the victims. Thomas fled the scene in a stolen vehicle, which he later crashed along Interstate 576 in South Fayette Township. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a Pennsylvania State Police report, the crash occurred when the southbound 2024 Kia Forte that authorities believe Thomas was driving failed to negotiate a right-hand curve while taking the exit ramp from southbound Interstate 79 to I-576. Thomas drove off the road, and up and over a large embankment, then flew through the air and hit an empty retention pond.

The vehicle then went through the pond and up an embankment where it went over a chain link fence and hit a guide rail, causing the vehicle to roll over. The vehicle, which was on fire, came to rest on its roof at mile marker 17.7 westbound in Robinson Township, Washington County, and Thomas was trapped inside.

Thomas was removed from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

County police spokesman Jim Madalinsky said the department does not anticipate releasing any further information regarding the stabbing.
