Body found in Kennedy Township is that of suspect in McKees Rocks shooting

The body of a man wanted in connection with the shooting of a McKees Rocks woman was found Monday morning on a steep hillside in Kennedy Township.

Allegheny County Police identified the suspect in the shooting as Edward Charles Sparrow, 22. County 911 was notified Sunday morning of the shooting, which occurred in the 100 block of Jane Street, but detectives from the police department’s Homicide Unit determined the shooting occurred Saturday evening.

At 8:17 p.m. Saturday, county 911 was notified of a single-vehicle crash in the 100 block of Langer Way in Kennedy. When local police arrived on scene, the vehicle was unoccupied.

Detectives determined that Sparrow was driving the vehicle involved in the crash, and a witness report indicated Sparrow jumped over the guardrail on Langer Way following the crash.

Detectives searched the steep hillside area near the guardrail Monday morning and located the body of an adult male that was later identified as Sparrow by the county medical examiner’s office.

A press release from the medical examiner’s office listed Sparrow’s home municipality as “out of county.” The time of death was listed at 10:36 a.m. Monday.
