Riverhounds look to get back on winning track Saturday in Louisville

The Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC will travel to Kentucky to take on Louisville City FC in USL action at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 9.

Louisville is in second place in the Eastern Division with a 5-2-1 record.  Jansen Wilson is Louisville’s leading scorer with four goals and the team is second overall in goals with 16.

The Riverhounds’ 1-0 loss to the Phoenix Rising FC last week at F.N.B. Stadium dropped their record to 3-4-1. The loss was the team’s first home defeat in 11 matches, dating back to September 2025.

The game began with both sides playing hard, but neither squad could take control of the game.  Danny Griffin and Eliot Goldthorp both had offensive opportunities for the Hounds, but a defensive battle ensued, and the first half ended in a scoreless tie.

The second half mimicked the first, and it wasn’t until Pittsburgh moved to a more attacking formation, looking to generate offense, that the first goal was scored.

A defensive lapse by the Hounds in their own end resulted in a Phoenix goal at the 64-minute mark.  The Riverhounds’ Max Viera attempted a pass to Victor Souza in Pittsburgh’s box that was intercepted by the USL’s leading scorer, Ihsan Sacko, who moved down the left side and beat goalkeeper Nico Campuzano from six yards out with a direct shot for the game’s only goal.

The Riverhounds tried to answer as Albert Dikwa and Viera had good scoring opportunities late but were unable to capitalize, and the Rising’s goalkeeper, Rios Novo, finished with a clean sheet.

The Riverhounds outshot Phoenix 9-8 but were only able to put two shots on net and the Rising won possession 52% to 48%.  Phoenix’s record is now 3-3-2.
