The Robert Morris University men’s and women’s hockey teams enter their weekend schedules on a roll.
The women’s team will take a two-game winning streak into its two-game set with Lindenwood after sweeping Delaware last weekend. The men’s team, meanwhile, is on a three-game winning streak heading into its home-and-home set with Niagara after sweeping Canisius last weekend, and defeating Bentley in a shootout after tying 3-3.
On the women’s side, the Colonials will host Lindenwood for their final two games on the season at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, and 1 p.m. Saturday at Clearview Arena.
The Colonials have had what has been a down year, with a 12-18-2 overall record and an 8-12-2 mark in Atlantic Hockey America conference action but look to end on a positive note.
The Lions also have not had the season they would’ve liked, with an 11-19-2 record overall, and a 9-12-1 conference record. Lindenwood has lost its last two games, both to Penn State.
This weekend will determine the seeding for the AHA postseason. With Lindenwood in sixth and RMU in seventh, the Colonials would need to win both games to take sixth from the Lions. Regardless of the outcome, both teams would reach the playoffs.
The great news for the Colonials is that seven of their 12 wins have come at home this season, and the Lions are 4-10-0 on the road.
In addition, RMU has had Lindenwood’s number since the two teams first faced one another in the 2011-12 season. RMU is 30-9-3 overall against Lindenwood, including 21-6-0 at home.
Jessica MacKinnon is the Colonials’ top point-getter on the season with 36, followed by Morgan Giannone with 26.
RMU men face Niagara in home-and-home weekend set
The Robert Morris men’s team travels to Niagara to take on the Purple Eagles at 6 p.m. Friday and then heads back to Clearview Arena for part two of the home-and-home series, with the puck dropping at 7 p.m. Saturday.
RMU enters Friday’s game with a 9-16-3 overall record, but the Colonials are 9-9-2 when facing conference opponents.
RMU last faced Niagara on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, taking both games, 4-2 and 4-3, respectively. Niagara comes into the weekend losing three of its last four games, including falling to RIT 2-1 on Tuesday, Feb. 10. Despite the 9-18-1 overall record and a 6-13-1 conference record, the Purple Eagles remain hungry to avoid getting swept by the Colonials.
Tanner Klimpke leads the Colonials in scoring with 17 points, followed by Cameron Garvey with 16.
